EENC's Eastern Section is partnering with Cape Fear's Going Green for their Environmental Book Club!
Social time is at 5:30, discussion begins at 6:00 and runs approximately 90 minutes or so. The bookstore closes at 8:00 p.m. There's no long-term commitment: you can come when the book being discussed is a title that interests you! (We do hope you'll read the book before you come, as it enriches the conversation.)
Snacks, beer and wine are available for sale inside the bookstore, for you to enjoy during our gathering. Old Books on Front Street offers a discount on Book Club selections (and to anyone arriving by bicycle). Call ahead to make sure they have your book in stock: (910) 762-6657.
NOTE: Any changes to schedule (whether for weather or any other reason) will also be posted on Cape Fear's Going Green online calendar, so please check the day of the event to make sure. Just go to the online calendar and click on the meeting date to pull up details. Or call them, at (910) 547-4390.
Alarmed by drastic changes in the Earth’s systems, the author, a climate scientist and suburban father of two, embarked on a journey to change his life and the world. He began by bicycling, growing food, meditating, and making other simple, fulfilling changes. Ultimately, he slashed his climate impact to under a tenth of the U.S. average and became happier in the process.
Being the Change explores the connections between our individual daily actions and our collective predicament. It merges science, spirituality, and practical action to develop a satisfying and appropriate response to global warming. The core message is deeply optimistic: a world without fossil fuels is not only possible—it will be better.
“A powerful reminder that it is possible–and joyful–to move away from fossil fuels, even in a society still in the throes of addiction.” —Bill McKibben
