MemorEEs Made: 2019 Conference Recap

We had such a great time at the Schiele Museum for EENC's 2019 Annual Conference.  Thank you to our fabulous presenters and speakers who shared their knowledge and experience.  Thank you to all the attendees, who asked inspiring questions and brought so much passion.

Some highlights:

  • Keynote speaker Dr. Carolyn Finney gave a thought-provoking address about challenges different people face connecting to land based on our history.
  • Our first Higher Education Summit brought together faculty teaching all over the state to connect with one another.
  • We had not one, but two panel presentations: one with classroom teachers about the intersections of EE and formal instruction, and one at our research symposium highlighting current trends and issues from the research realm.

By the numbers:

  • Lessons learned at the conference will ripple through our state.  This year's 178 conference and workshop attendees from over 124 different organizations serve more than 94,780 learners from pre-K to adults each year!
  • $3280 in scholarships were redeemed, including two inclusion scholarships awarded in honor of past president Deborah Miller.
  • $7723 total dollars were raised through the silent auction, live auction, and raffle!  These funds will support future conference scholarships and our mini-grant program.  Thanks, everyone, for your amazing spirit of giving!
  • We collected 87.9 pounds of compost Friday and Saturday!

We know many people's favorite part of the conference is getting to connect and talk with other educators.  Want to keep the conversation flowing until the next event?  Join EENC's Facebook group to ask questions, bounce ideas around, and participate in our monthly digital round-tables.

Save the date for next year's major events:

  • Central Section Mini-Conference, June 1, 2020 at Howell Woods Environmental Learning Center in Four Oaks
  • 2020 Annual Conference, September 17-19, 2020 at the Kanuga Conference Center in Hendersonville, NC.
