About This Event
The Department of Public Instruction is seeking input on the first draft of the revised K-12 Science Standards. EENC and the NC Office of Environmental Education and Public Affairs would like to invite you to a working session to discuss this first draft of these standards as they relate to environmental education.
During this session, we'll review the new draft standards, explore the proposed changes that relate to environmental education, and then leverage your expertise to create some shared notes. This will be a collaborative conversation, so come ready to discuss!
The day will be divided into blocks, with each block of time dedicated to focusing on a set of grade levels.
- 9:00-10:30 - Working Group for Grades K-2
- 10:30-11:00 - Break
- 11:00-12:30 - Working Group for Grades 3-5
- 12:30-1:00 - Break
- 1:00-2:30 - Working Group for Grades 6-8
- 2:30-3:00 - Break
- 3:00-4:30 - Working Group for High School
Come for a single working group block or the whole day! And if you cannot attend but would like to see other environmental educators' comments before you submit your individual survey response, go ahead and register for the event so you receive a copy of the shared notes.
Register for this working session here.
EENC has put together a survey preview of all the draft standards. Please review these before attending.
After this meeting, be sure to submit your responses to the Draft #1 K-12 Science Standards All Stakeholder Survey individually by December 18 - whether you can participate in this meeting or not. It is important that they hear from as many individuals on a topic as possible.

We strongly recommend you attend the Annual Nonformal Educators' Meeting on December 8 to learn more directly from DPI about the revision process before you attend this December 13 working session. Register for that event separately.
